  19. How did you know when it was time to go to hospital? Well lets see... after my husband gave me Castor oil mixed with a wendy's milkshake... I was in the bathroom all night and then @ 3 in the morning the cramping (thought it was diarrhea cramps from the LAXATIVE!!!) We decided to go to the hospital after calling the Dr. who said to take two tylenol and go back to sleep... grrr... and then calling poison control who told us to go to the hospital just to make sure the baby wasn't in distress because the castor oil should have worn off by then... only to find out when I got to the hospital that I was in FULL ON LABOR!!! When my contractions started earlier that night (which I thought were diarrhea cramps...) they were 1-2 mins apart and lasting about a minute!!! I DID NOT HAVE A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. How did you come up with the name? I really loved the name Landon... but my husband didnt like the meaning of "grassy/peaceful meadow" so he told me he like the names Cayden and Colton... So eventually I gave in and we decided together on Cayden because it meant "strong/brave warrior" ... Then when he was a couple of months old I found a notebook I wrote in when I was first pregnant and I had 3 boys names written in there... Landon, Cayden, and Colton.... HOW WEIRD IS THAT??? God must have totally given us his name!!!
  41. Is your child named after anyone? His middle name is after his daddy - Cayden Caleb

PAINFUL!!!!!!!!)

I wish there was an easier way to fill out this survey, but oh well.

1. How long have you been a Mom? a little over 3 years

2. How old were you when you became a Mom? 29

3. How many children call you Mommy? Two (Mama, actually)

4. Girl? Boy? or both? two girls

5. Was your pregnancy planned ? Yes for both, but it took a lot less time with our first child than it did for number two.

6. How did you find out you were pregnant? Took pregnancy tests at home both times with my husband present.

7. What were your reactions? My husband was grinning from ear to hear and crying a little bit both times. I was very nervous and felt like "Well, there's no going back now!"

8. Who did you tell first? With baby #1, we told my grandfather, then my parents. With baby#2 we told our first daughter, our Happy 5 soccer team, then my mother-in-law, then my parents.

9. Did you know what you were having? With our first pregnancy, no, we did not want to find out. With our second, yes, only because I really wanted to find out. If we have another baby, I'll let my hubby decide whether or not we'll find out.

10. Were you married at the time? yes

11. Was abortion an option for you? couldn't even imagine it.

12. Did you have morning sickness? Praise the Lord, no. I only felt like I might really lose it once with each pregnancy but I never threw up.

13. What did you crave? Nothing weird, just more intense cravings of stuff I normally enjoy - chocolate milk, peanut butter, cheese.

14. Who/what irritated you the most? Smells, sounds, annoying comments from people ("You haven't had that baby yet?" "Are you sure you're not having twins?")!!!!!

15. Favorite place to buy maternity clothes? Motherhood. For my second pregnancy I received a bunch of stuff from Christina Walters that got me through the post pregnancy months as well.

16. Did you have a baby shower? For baby #1.

17. Was it a surprise or did you know? Um, we basically planned most of it. I'm kind of a control freak. It was co-ed - I loved it!

18. Did you have any complications during your pregnancy? In my second pregnancy I hyperventilated once, was pre-diabetic, and had SPD (symphysis pubis disorder).

19. How did you know when it was time to go to hospital? Baby #1 - in and out of the hospital with "contractions" but only 1/2 cm dilated. I was delirious from lack of sleep for several days, was sent home with sleeping pills! Came back the next night, was in the hospital 11 hours and had my daughter after pushing for two and a half or three hours. Baby #2 - Had one false alarm a couple of weeks before and then had several days of contractions on and off before finally going into labor.

20. Who drove you to the hospital? Husband

21. How long were you in labor? Abby - a day or so? Becca - several hours

22. Was it natural or C-section? Natural.

23. Did you take medicine to ease the pain? Not really. I asked for Nubaine at 9 cm with my first daughter. I asked for and received Nubaine again with my second daughter when it was time to push, but I think it just made me dizzy. So basically I gave birth with no meds. Wow! I can't believe I did that! I'm normally such a wimp! But my husband and I were more scared of the Big Needle than pushing.

24. Time of birth? Abby - 11:05am 12/27/05, Becca 4:10pm 5/25/08

25. Who was in the room when baby was born? Husband, midwife, nurses

26. Weight? Mine? MYOB. Babies? 1st was 7 pounds, 9 ounces, second was 9 pounds, 1 ounce

27. Length? I think the first one was 19 inches and the second was over 20 inches

28. Any hair? dark hair on both, it's lighter now

29. How much weight did you gain during pregnancy? Um, more than was recommended but both my babies were very healthy and I eventually lost all of the weight with baby #1 PLUS another 10 pounds when I stopped nursing at 15 months (I later gained that back, but oh well).

30. Was baby early or late? Abby was 2 days late, Becca was 8 days early

31. Who drove you home from hospital? husband

32. Did you go home or somewhere else when you left the hospital? Abby - straight home, I think. Becca - tried to go to a pharmacy for meds for me, but with it being Memorial Day, nothing was open!

33. Anyone spend the night with you first night home? My in-laws came up from N.C. to see both babies right after they were born.

34. Do you wish you had the opposite sex of what you got? Nope, I LOVE having girls.

35. What's your favorite thing about being a Mom? How much my 3 year old looks up to me - I'm her role model and I need to take that more seriously while I still have so much influence on her. Also how I am the funniest/prettiest/smartest/nicest person in the world in my daughters' eyes. I know she may not always feel that way about me and that makes me sad.
I also love it when my girls giggle together. They really get each other going.

36. What's your least favorite thing? Ugh, being a parent forces you to be less selfish. You don't realize how selfish you really are until you have kids. Seriously. Quality sleep? What's that again? Time to put on makeup and do my hair? Save that for Sunday mornings when hubby's home to help watch the girls. Spending money on myself? Hah! Single income family now. The sacrifices that we make as SAHMs. I can appreciate now what my mom did for me.

37. Do you plan on having more soon? My husband was ready to try for another child just 2 or 3 months after we had each baby. What?!?! Lord willing we'll try again soon. He really wants two boys....ugh.

38. How many times have you been pee'd on? Even though I don't have a boy, I have been peed on. And puked, and pooped, and drooled, and sneezed. Not really vomit though...yet.

39. Barfed on? see above

40. How did you come up with the name? We had names for like five kids picked out since just before we got engaged. Abigail Grace, Rebecca Joy, Benjamin Caleb, and Jonathan David. We had a 3rd girl's name picked but my husband decided he didn't like it. A third girl would probably be Elisabeth Hope.

41. Is your child named after anyone? Abigail of the Bible. Love her story. The name means "the Father's Joy"

42. What is the longest you have been away from your child? Two and a half days for Unity Camp in 2006. Had to prepare for a missions trip to Moncton and the U.C. was mandatory.

43. Bedtime routine? Wow, this is a long survey...
Dinner between 5:30-6, family Bible time (if not a church or Bible study night), maybe baths, nurse the baby and put her to bed by 8:30, older daughter to bed by 9:30.

44. Last movie you saw in the theater? Soooo long ago. I think the last one we went to was when my first daughter was a baby, so that had to be over 2 years ago. No idea what it was.

45. One thing you will not give up just because you're a mom? "Me" time. Many times it gets put on the back burner, but eventually I have to be able to do something for myself, even it's just painting my toe nails or insisting that I MUST clean out a closet without any interruptions (again, control freak). I really enjoy going out for coffee with my friend or getting together with girlfriends for play dates.

46. One thing you did give up now that you're a mom: Working outside the home. I had a good job but it was my heart's desire to be able to stay home with my kids and hopefully homeschool. We are so thankful that God has provided for our needs so that I can be home with them. Things are always tight and many times we're not sure how God is going to provide but He is always faithful to give us just what we need.

47. Best Mom perk: See previous. My kid thinks I am the coolest person in the world. She loves me more than anyone. She even shares her coveted pink crayon with me. Cuddling with my husband and girls in our bed in the morning is pretty cool too.

48. When the kid is napping, you are: stressing about what to actually do, taking care of the other kid (it really sucks when they don't nap at the same time!), trying to do some work, cleaning, doing my Bible reading, working out to a video, showering or fixing myself up, getting dinner ready, lurking on my hubby's Facebook account, answering emails, or taking a nap (rarely if I'm not pregnant. When I am pregnant, this "taking a nap" jumps to the top of the list).

49. When did baby start sleeping through the night? Who knows! Babies grow and go through phases so quickly that before you know it, your baby who WAS sleeping through the night like a champ suddenly wakes up every night for a feeding. For the record, my three year old STILL wakes us up several times a week.

50. What’s your favorite activity with baby? Cuddling, reading, playing games, laughing, kissing and tickling.
